Watching Scorsese's The Blues : A Library Companion

If you're watching and enjoying the seven part Martin Scorsese series on The Blues™ you might be interested in the special Enne Amann Collection in the Curtis Library's 1904 Reading Room. The collection, dedicated to Traditional Anglo-American Folk Songs, has received a new infusion of CDs and print media addressing the Blues' evolution from folk expression to its current American identity.

American musicologist and folklorist Alan Lomax recorded thousands of songs and interviews for the Library of Congress contained in the American Folklife Center . The recent Blues CD acquisitions in the Amann Collection include:

Feeding the Monster tonight at Bookland

Brunswick - Bookland - 7 PM: Seth Mnookin compiled information from every source to produce "Feeding the Monster", which is a detailed and revealing look at the Red Sox organization that overcame 86 years of frustration to win a spectacular championship in 2004. FMI: 725-2313.

Tour NASB site on Wednesdays Through August

Residents may tour the Brunswick Naval Air Station site (slated to close in 2011) on any Wednesday from now until August 30th. The tour bus leaves the old high school on McKeen Street at 6:00 p.m. and returns no later than 8:00 p.m.
