Hazardous Waste Remediation Program

For those interested in the Hazardous Waste Remediation Program at the Brunsick Naval Air Station, please refer to the website of the Brunswick Area Citizens For a Safe Environment.

BACSE is a group of residents who have been partnering with the U.S. Navy, USEPA and MDEP since 1991. Their primary focus has been the protection of residents and base personnel who are at risk from contaminants buried on the base during the 1940's and 1950's. They also advocate for the protection of groundwater from these contaminants, because of the risk to private wells and shelfish harvesting areas of Harpswell Sound.

Currently, because of the planning for the base closure in 2011, they are advocating for careful examination of the hazardous conditions in hte reuse planning.
